[Somerset County, Maryland] - Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS), in collaboration with the Maryland Department of Labor, reaffirms its unwavering commitment to education and reentry support for individuals within correctional facilities.

Eastern Correctional Institution recently witnessed a significant milestone, as 18 men proudly graduated with their General Educational Development (GED) certificates, while an additional 42 individuals completed occupational programs. The latter group attained certifications in masonry, carpentry, and computer technology, equipping them with valuable skills for a brighter future.

DPSCS, in partnership with the Maryland Department of Labor, offers a diverse array of more than 20 trades within correctional facilities statewide, ensuring everyone can earn their coveted GED.

This achievement reflects a shared dedication to the success of returning citizens, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the graduates. Furthermore, we commend the exceptional commitment of the teachers and correctional staff, who continue to play a pivotal role in transforming lives and building a stronger, more inclusive community.
